Biography

Sandra Tobias graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1984 and since then has spent time traveling; teaching art, producing her own paintings and parenting.
She spent two years living in Tokyo where she was selected for the annual PARCO Urban Art exhibition, ‘Absolut Vodka’ exhibition, Spiral Gallery and several others.
She has exhibited in group and solo shows at Helen Gorie Gallery, Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne, Latrobe University Gallery Bendigo and Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. Her work is represented in several Australian and International Collections both private and public. She has completed several Artist In Residencies at Trades Hall Melbourne, ‘Bundanon’ Shoalhaven, NSW and Taipei Artists Village (Australia-China-Council 2005)

After living in Hong Kong for several years she returned to central Victoria where she developed community art and participatory arts projects. She has project managed ‘Artist’s in the Rotunda’ (Castlemaine State Festival, 2007) and “Posted-it’s what was written!” installation at Federation Square 2009.

Tobias’ work often reads as a diary of events, places and times. They are colourful, expressive and offer intimate views of her humanistic perceptions.

She currently lives in The People’s Republic of Brunswick with her husband and two children. In this somewhat frenetic pace of life she juggles parenting, teaching and producing her own work. She is currently working on her next project ‘The Dance of Life’ installation, Melbourne Fringe Festival 2012.

Sandra Tobias is available for art commissions, art consultancy, collaborative arts projects and ‘conversation’.
