Canon 7D

7D Test Footage from Luke Brooks on Vimeo.

If your a tech geek like me, then you would of heard of all the buzz about canon’s new DSLR that just got released a month ago. It is capable of shooting 18mega pixel photos but more impressive is its HD video mode. You can film full HD 1080p and 720p. I just managed to get one of these lovely camera’s and it hasn’t left my side since. This is my first little test video and the quality and DOF (Depth of Field) is just amazing. I used the stock 18 – 135mm lens. Its not the best lens but it is still usable. I edited in After Effects and colour corrected the video as well as added bit of motion tracking just for fun.

Balcony Time Lapse Photography

Balcony Time Lapse from Luke Brooks on Vimeo.

This is my first shot at Time Lapse photography using a canon 450D DSLR and canon 55-200mm zoom lens. I didn’t expect it to be perfect first time. So I’m quite happy to admit some of the shots light levels were changing and my tripod was being blown by the wind creating a shaky video. I’m sure it will be the first of many.
I used cannon EOS software utlity with about 3 usb extension cables so it would reach my computer. Once I had all the photos I used after effects to composite them together into a video file. At this stage because I was shooting high quality jpegs it was around 4k (4000x4000pixels) which is alot really, too much in fact. I couldn’t even play the file so after a quick crop and export at 720p this is the result.

Water Colour 2.0

Water Colour 2.0 from Luke Brooks on Vimeo.

I was invited to submit my video “Water Colour” into a German video artists festival, but unfortunately could not get permission to use the music that I had chosen for the original piece. I then decided it would be a good opportunity to create some relaxing music to accompany the video piece. Here is my new and improved Water Colour video with music and visuals by me, Luke Brooks. Fan Film – The Hunt for Gollum

Today I managed to stumble accross a fan film for Lord Of The Rings called “The Hunt For Gollum” and I have to say I’m not a big Lord of The Rings fan but this is a brilliant film. They only had a limited budget and none of the cast and crew were paid a cent. That means that this film exists purely because of peoples hard work and dedication with out any reward but the film it self. So because of that fact alone I would recommend you watch it now!

It is an internet only release as of may 3rd and will remain free to view for anyone interested. You can view the film here.

The Hunt For Gollum is an unofficial not for profit short film by a group of enthusiast filmmakers. As a Lord of the Rings Fan Film, we are not affiliated with the Tolkien Estate or New Line Cinema and are producing this project as an entirely non commercial film. As with other fan films we are making this purely for the enjoyment of the material and the experience of making a high quality low budget film. – http://thehuntforgollum.com

Water Colour

So I decided to spend some time doing an expiremental video of food colouring dropped into a clear acrylic box of water. I wanted to see what would happen and the different effects that could be created and how good it would look when filmed. The effect was much better then I ever thourght it would look, please check the video to see for yourself.

In order to film it the camera was placed to look through one side of the clear arcylic box as I dropped different colour food dies into the water. I did multiple takes with different colour 1 red, 1 blue, 1 green and one take with many colours together. I then did a rough edit layering the videos together and put it all to some music.

I shot the video in 1080i and have uploaded a 720p version to vimeo, in order to watch it in HD you’ll have to head on over to the vimeo site. (links below)
